Why not just send the PDF to my Kindle?

You can, but the PDF page remains fixed. On a smaller screen that usually means tiny text or repeated zooming and panning. A reflowable EPUB lets the text wrap around the screen at your chosen font size.

How is this different from Calibre or a basic online converter?

Basic converters mostly extract characters and guess where paragraphs belong. upub analyzes the page layout and rebuilds reading order, chapters, headings, images and footnotes before packaging the result as EPUB 3.

Can upub convert a scanned PDF?

Yes. When a PDF contains page images instead of selectable text, upub uses AI-assisted OCR and layout analysis to recover readable text. Pages it cannot verify confidently are identified in the quality report.

Will chapters, page numbers and footnotes get mixed into the text?

upub is designed to remove repeating headers and page numbers, restore the reading order and preserve book structure. Complex source pages can still need review, so every conversion includes a downloadable page-level quality report.
